Burgundy (Royal house : 1126-1369 : Castile and León)
The royal house of Burgundy in Castile and León began with the ascension of King Alfonso VII in 1126. The Burgundian line is a result of the marriage between Raymond of Burgundy (d. 1107), Count of Galicia and and son of Guillaume IV, Count of Burgundy (House of Ivurea), and Urraca Alfónsez (d. 1126), Countess of Portugal and Queen of Castile and León, the daughter of King Alfonso VI of Castile and León (d. 1109). The Burgundy royal house in Castile and León is not to be confused with Burgundy royal house in Portugal, which descends from the family of the Dukes of Burgundy and the illegitimate daughter of Alfonso VI, Countess Teresa Alfónsez (d. 1130). The Burgundy Royal House in Castile and León ended with the death of King Pedro I in 1369, being replaced by the Trastámara royal house founded by Pedro I's half-brother, Enrique de Trastámara, who became King Enrique II of Castile and León.
