Montefeltro (Family : Montecopiolo, Italy)
The Montefeltro noble family was the dynastic family that first governed the castle of Montecopiolo (12th century), then the county of Montefeltro and that of Urbino. In the 15th century, their dominion extended over the entire Duchy of Urbino. The family was a branch of the Signori di Carpegna. Duke Guido I abandoned the Duchy of Urbino in 1508, and adopted the Francesco Maria della Rovere (1508–38), his sister's child, thus uniting the signoria of Sinigaglia with Urbino. Rovere family ruled the duchy until its extinction in 1631, when it returned to the Papal States.
