Abbaye de Fontevrault

Abbey founded by Robert of Arbrissel in 1101. The abbey was a double monasterery, in which the community consisted of both men and women - in separate quarters of the abbey - all of whom were subject to the authority of the Abbess of Fontevraud. It was the founding abbey of the Order of Fontevraud.
