Fordham University

Founded as St. John's College in 1841 and placed under direction of Jesuits from St. Mary's, Kentucky, in 1846. On March 7, 1907, the charter of St. John's College was amended and the institution received the corporate name of Fordham University; the college of liberal arts remained St. John's College, Fordham University until Nov. 19, 1931, when it was renamed Fordham College.
