Orden de Montesa

The Orden de Montesa was a military religious order founded by King Jaume II of Aragón in 1317 out of the lands and properties of the Templars, which had been suppressed by the papacy. In 1400, the Ordre de Sant Jordi d'Alfama was merged into the Orden de Montesa. In 1587, the Orden de Montesa was incorporated into the Spanish crown, now an order of knighthood and chivalry.
