- after conflict with the church of Malabar in the 19th century, the Mar Thoma Syrian Church was formed and lost title to its previous seminary, which had been inaugurated in 1815; although the foundation stone in Kottayam was laid in 1896, it wasn't until 1926 that the Mar Thoma Syrian Vaidika Seminary was inaugurated
