- Major Seminary of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church; origin in 1764 at Verapoly and was shifted to the present location at Mangalapuzha in 1932; started by the Carmelite missionaries; originally inter-ritual, serving Syro-Malabar, Syro-Malankara and Latin rites in Kerala; had 2 wings by 1964 (Mangalapuzha seminary for theology students and Carmelgiri for philosophy students); in 1996, they separated; Mangalapuzha seminary for Oriental rites and Carmelgiri to the Latin Rite
