Qeddest Śellāsē Cathedral
This Ethiopian Orthodox cathedral in Addis Ababa was commissioned by Ḫāyla Śellāsē, Emperor of Ethiopia, 1892-1975, with the foundation stone laid on December 25, 1931; construction halted during the Italian occupation, with work resuming in 1942. The first service was celebrated January 26, 1944, and the building was extended in the 1940s and again in the 1960s. It is the final burial place of Ḫāyla Śellāsē and his wife Empress Manan.
