Ospedale Santo Spirito in Sassia (Rome, Italy)
Hospital located in Rome near the Vatican, built by Pope Innocent III between 1198 and 1201 on the site of the Schola Saxonum. The hospital served as the headquarters of the Order of the Holy Spirit from 1204, when a papal bull (Inter opera pietatis) appointed them to operate it. As such, it was part of a large network of hospitals affiliated with the order. In 1896, this and other Roman hospitals were unified under the name, Pio Istituto di Santo Spirito ed Ospedali riuniti di Roma.
