Description
دير مار يوحنّا - حراش = Dayr Mār Yūḥannā - Ḥarāsh; located in al-Rīḥānah=الريحانة, between Darʻūn and ʻAyn Ṭūrah; female monastery established in 1642, with ca. 30 nuns; they copied ritual books; nuns remained confined until 1942, when they moved to an apostolic life working with educational and spiritual institutions in Lebanon and Syria; also includes a neighboring monastery for monks, which later became the seat of the Bishopric of Beirut, Serbia, and Damascus
