St. George's Basilica (Victoria, Gozo Island, Malta)
The parish of Saint George outside of the Cittadela of Gozo origins date back to the Middle Ages. The parish was merged with the parish of the Assumption in the Citadella in 1688, which lasted until 1955. The current church was built between 1672-1678 by Vittorio Cassar. The church was recognized as a minor basilica in 1958 and a collegiate church in 1975. Apart from being a Roman Catholic parish church, the basilica also serves as the main parish church of the Anglican community of Gozo, part of the Diocese of Europe. The Anglican community, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin and St George, was established in the Basilica of Saint George on 23 April 2005.
