Tijānīyah

Tijānīyah is a Sufi order (ṭarīqah), founded by Abū al-ʻAbbās Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad al-Tijānī (1737 or 1738-1815) in Algeria. It is prominent throughout North and West Africa.

Ṣūfī ṭarīḳa which was founded by Aḥmad al-Tid̲j̲ānī in the oasis of Abī Samg̲h̲ūn in Algeria in 1196/1781-2; Tid̲j̲āniyya has great influence in West Africa, especially in Senegal and Nigeria; founder forbid followers from joining other ṭarīḳas
