Museum of the Order of St. John (London, England)

Museum of the Most Venerable Order of Saint John of Jerusalem. The museum had its origin in 1838, when gifts were made to the Venerable Order of Saint John. By 1867, Reverend Thomas Hugo, was appointed as the first librarian, meaning the collection was substanial enough to appoint the position. The 1912 inventory included a large collection of books, arms, and art, leading to the appointment of a library committee in 1913. The items were first displayed in 1915. By 1923, a museum room was created to exhibit the collection, and a second room was added in 1935. Visits were done by appointment. In 1978, the museum commenced regular opening for visitors.
