Medici, Piero de', 1416-1469

Italian ruler of Florence and head of the Medici bank (Banco dei Medici), noted for successes in war that helped preserve the enormous prestige bequeathed by his father, Cosimo di Giovanni de' Medici. He was also an avid patron and collector of the arts, and father of Lorenzo di Piero de' Medici (Lorenzo the Magnificent).
