Rupert, King of Germany, 1352-1410

German ruler, son of Elector Palatine Rupert II and Beatrice of Aragon, daughter of King Peter II of Sicily. He succeeded his father as Elector Palatine in 1398 and became king of Germany in 1400, after deposing Wenceslaus of Luxembourg by himself and three ecclesiastical prince-electors. However, his reign was marked by incessant conflict with the House of Luxembourg, an unsuccessful military campaign against the duchy of Milan, and questions regarding the legitimacy of his reign as king of Germany.
