Catherine de Médicis, Queen, consort of Henry II, King of France, 1519-1589
Catherine de' Medici was Queen of France, consort to King Henry II (1519-1559). Upon the king's untimely death, she played a formidable role in politics during the reigns of her three sons, and in royal policies amid the French Wars of Religion (1562-1598). She was also a avid patron of Renaissance art and architecture.
