Otto III, Holy Roman Emperor, 980-1002
German Holy Roman Emperor, son of Otto II and Theophanu. He was crowned King of Germany in 983 at the age of three, and reclaimed the titles of King of Italy and Holy Roman Emperor in 996 by the age of sixteen. Upon his return from campaigns against the Slavs in 1001, he was confronted with an aristocratic rebellion and died while reclaiming Rome the following year. He was succeeded by his second cousin Henry II.
