Grigor Vardapet, Khlatʻetsʻi, 1349-1425
Armenian vardapet-theologian of the 14th-15th centuries and influencer of life and culture in the late medieval Lake Van region (modern-day Eastern Turkey). He is known as Khlatʻetsʻi from his birthplace of Khlatʻ (modern-day Ahlat, Eastern Turkey). He studied under Yovhan Orotnetsʻi, and was a classmate of Grigor Tatʻewatsʻi. He also studied in Khaṙabastavankʻ [Khaṙabast Monastery], under the prominent Sargis rabunapet Aprakunecʻi (fourteenth century). He was associated with the monastery of St. Stepʻanos called Cʻipnavankʻ, in Arckē (modern-day Adilcevaz, Eastern Turkey). Khlatʻetsʻi was martyred during the Qara Qoyunlu raids of Ahlat.
