Scot, Michael, approximately 1175-approximately 1234
Scottish philosopher, astrologer, physician, and translator of Greek, Arabic, and Hebrew into Latin. His fame as an astrologer, heightened by his employment by emperor Frederick II, led to efforts by some contemporaries to discredit him as a magician, and later scholars to claim he was a fraudster. His translations nevertheless helped spread the of Aristotelean philosophy in western Europe.
