Pontio, Pietro, 1532-1596

Italian composer and music theorist, who was active as a maestro di cappella at S. Maria Maggiore in Bergamo (1565-1567), the church of Madonna della Steccata in Parma (1567-1569 and 1582-1592), S. Alessandro in Colonna in Bergamo (1569-1574), Milan Cathedral (1577-1582), and Parma Cathedral (1592-1596). He is well known for his treatises, the Ragionamento (1588) and the Dialogo (1595), and he composed primarily sacred music.
