Stojković, Ivan, approximately 1390-1443

Croatian Dominican theologian, philologist, and diplomat, who taught at the Université de Paris before entering service in the Curia of Martin V. He was a major figure in the Council of Basel, which led to his being sent to Constantinople to facilitate a reunion of the Eastern and Western Churches. During this time, he studied Greek and produced an etymological work on Scripture, leading Pope Eugenius IV to send him on a diplomatic mission to the Greek emperor. He was made a cardinal by Antipope Felix V.
