Margaret, of Austria, Regent of the Netherlands, 1480-1530
Margaret was the daughter of Maximilian I and Mary of Burgundy. She was Princess of Asturias by marriage and later Duchess of Savoy. From 1507 to her death in 1530 she was twice governor of the Habsburg Netherlands and gathered many artists and scholars to her court of Mechelen, making it a center of humanism. Margarete came from the Habsburg family.
