Ulrika Eleonora, Queen of Sweden, 1688-1741
Swedish ruler, who was the youngest child of King Charles XI (1655-1697) and Ulrika Eleonora of Denmark (1656-1693). From 1713 to 1714, she was regent during the absence of her brother Charles XII (1682-1718) and, upon his death in 1718, was Queen of Sweden. In 1720, she abdicated in favor of her husband Landgrave Frederick I of Hesse-Kassel (1676-1751), serving instead as consort. She died of smallpox November 24, 1741.
