Mylius, Andreas, 1527-1594

Andreas was a Mecklenburg politician, diplomat, historian, and chronicler. At the University of Leipzig, he earned a baccalaureate degree in 1546. Some believe that he may have moved to the University of Wittenberg and received a master's degree the following year, although this is contested. After attending the Reichstag in Augsburg in 1548, he entered the service of Duke Johann Albrecht I of Mecklenburg, serving as a tutor, library director, and personal translator, eventually becoming an influential political advisor, diplomat, and chancellor. In 1570, Emperor Maximilian II raised him to the nobility, and in 1572, Johann Albrecht gave him the small feudal estate of Gädebehn near Crivitz, where he lived and died. His notable works include translations of Martin Luther's Bible from German into Latin, a translation of the Eighty Speeches of Dio Chrysostom, and two Mecklenburg histories.
