Becker, Egeling, -1481
Studied at the University of Erfurt from 1440 to 1450, where he became steadfast friends with Gabriel Biel in 1451. He also studied at the University of Cologne in 1453, then returned to Erfurt in 1457. He then taught the clergy at the Mainz Cathedral. While there, he became prebendary of the Carthusians and then also at Strasbourg from 1478. In Strasbourg, he befriended Johann Geiler von Kaisersberg, with whom he defended his old classmate, Johann von Wesel, who had been sentenced to prison for his views on indulgences. Upon his own death, Egeling left his library to the University of Erfurt
