Witelo, approximately 1220-approximately 1275

Witelo was a Polish friar, theologian, and natural philosopher. He was likely born in Silesia, in the vicinity of Legnica, and he studied at Università di Padova around 1260, later moving to Viterbo. He became friends with William of Moerbeke and wrote an influential work on optics, Perspectiva, which also touches on psychology and Platonic metaphysics. He died sometime after 1275 and before 1314.
