Slüter, Joachim, approximately 1490-1532
Joachim was a popular preacher and reformer in Rostock. He earned his master's at the University of Rostock and was chaplain of the Petrikirche there in 1523. He preached in Low German and was an advocate for vernacular hymns, publishing the oldest known Low German hymnal and translating a prayer book into Low German. He was so popular that he sometimes had to preach outside and the citizens often supported him against attempts to oppose him from Catholics and other Protestants.
