Philip V, King of Spain, 1683-1746
French-born Spanish king, second son of Louis, Grand Dauphin and Maria Anna Victoria of Bavaria. He was third in line to the French throne after his father and his elder brother, Louis, Duke of Burgundy. He was King of Spain from 1 November 1700 to 14 January 1724, and again from 6 September 1724 to his death in 1746. As a patron of the arts, he imported Italian architects and French builders to build the palace of San Ildefonso and a new Palacio Real. He and his second wife, Elizabeth Farnese, were also collectors and founded the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando.
