Jacques, de Vitry, approximately 1170-1240. Historia Hierosolimitana abbreviata
Brief account of the first three Crusades and events up to 1212 as well as a guide to the peoples, fauna, and flora of the Holy Land. Jacques de Vitry intended to write a three-part work called the Historia Hierosolimitana, which was begun during the Fifth Crusade to serve as a manual for future Crusades. The first book, the Historia Occidentalis, outlined the reforms he felt necessary for the Crusade and was completed. The second book, the Historia Orientalis, described the success and failures of the past Crusades, while also describing the people and geography of the regions. The third book, which was to describe the Fifth Crusade, was never completed.
