Palatinate-Zweibrücken (Royal House : 1654-1720)
Branch of the Wittelsbach dynasty that was the Royal House of Sweden from 1654 to 1720. The ancestor of the House of Palatinate-Zweibrücken was Stephen, Count Palatine of Simmern-Zweibrücken (1385–1459), a son of King Rupert of Germany. The first monarch in the dynasty in Sweden was King Karl X Gustav, while the last was Queen Ulrika Eleonora, who reigned in her own right from 5 December 1718 until her abdication on 29 February 1720 in favour of her husband King Frederick, and then as his consort until her death.
