France. Conseil des anciens

Assembly created by the Constitution of Year III. Formed with the Conseil des Cinq-Cents, the Corps législatif, under the Directoire. Composed of 250 members. Was dissolved by Napoleon Bonaparte, at the same time as the Conseil des Cinq-Cents. Named the Conseil des Anciens because its members had to be over 40 years old, its role was to vote on the proposals of the Conseil des Cinq-Cents.
