Third Order Secular of St. Francis

Brotherhood of lay Catholic men and women within the Franciscan Order founded by Saint Francis in 1209 and approved by Pope Nicholas IV in 1221 that did not require solemn vows, but based their lives on the Rule of Saint Francis. The Third Secular Order of Saint Francis was reorganized as the Secular Franciscan Order by Pope Paul VI in 1978.
