Catholic Church. Rota Romana

The Rota Romana is Rota Romana functioned as the supreme ecclesiastical tribunal for civil affairs through the early 20th century. The modern Rota Romana is no longer a supreme tribunal but is subordinate to the Apostolic Signatura. However, it is also the tribunal of first instance in cases which are reserved to the Holy See or which the pope has reserved for himself by means of a special rescript of the Apostolic Signature.
