Ordem de Cristo

Military religious order founded in 1318 by King Dinis of Portugal (1261-1325) to take on members of the Templars who had not been convicted of heresy. The Ordem de Cristo had its headquarters at Castro Marim, following the Rule of Saint Benedict as influenced by the Cistercians.
