Pacelli, Asprilio, 1570-1623

Italian singer, musician, choral conductor, and composer, who was active in Rome and then at the court of Sigismond III, King of Poland (1566-1632). In the early 1580s, he sang in the choir of Cappella Giulia in Rome and, from 1586 until possibly the mid-1590s, was maestro di cappella of the Arciconfraternita del gonfalone. Meanwhile, from 1591 to around 1594, he taught and played the organ for the Confraternità della Santissima Trinità de' Pellegrini and, from 1596 to 1602, taught at the Collegium Germanicum and the Basilica di Sant'Apollinare. Throughout his career in Rome, Pacelli composed predominately sacred works. In March 1602, he relocated permanently to the Polish court in Krakow and then Warsaw, yet little is known of his activities there. He died in Warsaw on May 4, 1623.
