Peckatel, Claus von, 1548-1615
Claus von Peckatel served as prince Mecklenburg and Palatinate Counts Baden councilor and colonel. He attended a school in Neubrandenburg and then Wolfshagen to train in martial arts and horsemanship under Jürgen von Blankenburg. He served various dukes in the Netherlands and Sweden, then in 1580, he was appointed captain to fight for Sweden in the Baltics. He was then employed in the Netherlands as a captain, rising to lieutenant colonel. He fought for Sweden again in Hungary in 1595 and 1601. He was awarded a pension from Duke Carl of Mecklenburg and married in 1605, but was widowed not long after. He died ten years later, and Duke Adolph Friedrich of Mecklenburg organized an extravagant funeral for him, which attracted criticism.
