Hüseyin, Koca, active 1645-1646

Koca Hüseyin was an Ottoman historian, known for his general history, Bedâyiuʼl-vekayiʻ. He entered the state service in Istanbul and served as reîsul-küttap in the Divan-ı Hümâyun, several times over the course of 60 years.

Died after 1646; Ottoman historian; originally from Sarajevo, where his father may have been in charge of the madrasa; he moved to Istanbul and entered state service; reîsul-küttap, working for the Divan-ı Hümâyun several times over the course of 60 years; he dated one work in January 1645, then continued to work on it; knew Arabic, Persian, Turkish, and Bosnian; Hüseyin Efendi; authored a general history called Bedâyiuʼl-vekayiʻ
