Rovetta, Giovanni, approximately 1596-1668

Italian composer, musician, and singer, who performed in the Cappella ducale di San Marco from 1614, studying under Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643), and known to have been in private service as a musician. As a composer, he is credited with numerous secular and sacred works for voice and for both voice and instrumentation, many of which he published, particularly his motets and madrigals. He died in Venice on October 23, 1668.
