Grandi, Alessandro, -1630
Italian composer who began his career as a singer at the Accademia della Morte in Ferrara, where he became maestro di cappella. He later served as maestro at the Accademia dello Spirito Santo in the same city until the mid-1610s and, in mid-July 1615, was appointed maestro of the cathedral in Ferrara. Grandi relocated to Venice in 1617 to sing and teach at the Basilica di San Marco in Venice, where he evenually attained the position of deputy maestro di cappella. He then moved to Bergamo upon offer to serve as maestro at Santa Maria Maggiore in 1627. He and his family died of the plague in Bergamo in 1630. Collections of motets for multiple voices have been attributed to him.
