Bābīlā, Yūsuf, -1787

After studying at the college of the Propaganda Fidei in Rome (1712-1725), he was ordained a priest (1725) and returned to Lebanon as secretary and advisor to Patriarch Kīrullus VI Tānās. Although he was nominated as bishop of Sidon in 1752, he was not elected. Bābīlā was professor of theology at the convent de Saint-Sauveur, and he is best known as a translator, who translated dogmatic and ascetic theology from Italian to Arabic.

Yūsuf Bābīla (died 1787); not a Salvatorian, but began his studies at the prompting of the founder of Saint-Sauveur, where he later taught; born in Sidon, went to the college of the Propaganda in 1712, and he graduated in 1725; ordained priest in 1725; secretary/advisor to Patriarch Cyrille Tanas; nominated as bishop of Sidon in 1752 but not elected; professor of theology at convent de Saint-Sauveur, where he died on Nov. 16, 1787; above all was a translator; translated dogmatic/ascetic theology from Italian
