Mattoni, Filippo, 1848-1922

Italian organist, singer, and composer, who was organist at the Duomo di Todi and then at Cappella Giulia at the Vatican. Among his teachers were Salvatore Meluzzi (1813-1897) and Augusto Moriconi (ca. 1907). While at the Vatican, Mattoni was a proponent of liturgical reforms and served in the Commissione Romana di Musica Sacra Roma established by Pope Leo XIII (1810-1903). During his career, he composed numerous liturgical works. He died in Rome on November 14, 1922.
