Sánchez de Arévalo, Rodrigo, 1404-1470

Spanish prelate, secretary, diplomat, theologian, and historian, who was appointed bishop of Oviedo (1457), Zamora (1467), Calahorra y La Calzada (1467), and Palencia (1469). Prior to his ecclesiastical career, he studied law in Salamanca, and served as secretary and diplomat to both John II of Castile (1405-1454) and Henry IV of Castile (1425-1474). He authored religious, historical, and political tracts, both in Latin and in the Spanish vernacular, such as the Speculum Vitae Humanae, Historia Hispanica, and Suma de la politica.
