Zasius, Ulrich, 1461-1535

Ulrich Zazius was born in Konstanz, where he began his career as a notary and clerk in the ecclesiastical courts in 1483. By 1494, he was head of the town school in Freiburg im Breisgau, where he became a court clerk in 1501, and later professor of law at the Universität Freiburg im Breisgau in 1506. He was an important imperial councilor (Consiliarius imperialis) and vice-chancellor under Emperor Maximillian II.
