"Painter, printmaker and teacher; born Cluj, Romania; graduated from the University of Bucharest 1935; to USA 1939; taught painting and sculpture at Columbia University 1951-83, known for drawings and etchings; exhibited worldwide; illustrated fiction and poetry, including a volume of Poemas de las Madres by Gabriela Mistral, the Chilean poet and winner of the 1945 Nobel Prize for Literature."
