Salamone, Francesco, 1478-1569
Italian condottiero, who was employed by the Kingdom of Naples against the French, by the count of Potenza (Juan de Guevara) as a man-at-arms, and then on the side of the French in the battle of Ravenna (1512). He served the Sforzas in their conflict with the French over possession of the Duchy of Milan, particularly in ensuring the fortification of Parma and fighting in the battles of Milan, Novara, and Cremona. He finished his career as a consultant and teacher of fortification design under the patronage of the Farnese in Parma.
