Enbāqom, Eċċagē, -1560 or 1561
He was born Abū l-Fatḥ to a princely family in Yemen and his Jewish mother. He traveled to Ethiopia in ca. 1489 and went to the imperial court in 1492. He fled the imperial court after the death of the emperor in 1494, eventually reaching Dabra Libānos, where he was instructed in Christianity, baptized, and received the new name Enbāqom. He became a monk and was ordained deacon and priest ca. 1500, then became the metropolitan's key assistant. He was elected eċċagē of Dabra Libānos November 1523, then exiled ca. 1527 and withdrew into the wilderness. He was brought to the imperial court ca. 1540, where he was an important councilor and translated several books from Arabic. He was reappointed eċċagē ca. 1559 and died shortly thereafter.
