Jubayr, Tīmūthāwus Isḥāq, 1643-1721

Born Isḥāq ʻAbd al-Ḥayy Jibrāʼīl ʻAbd Allāh Āl Qāshā in Mosul, he traveled to Aleppo in 1674 and was made Metropolitan of Diyarbakır in 1682, taking the religious name Tīmūthāws Isḥaq. He later traveled to Rome, where he studied with the Capuchin fathers then in the Urbanian school. He lived in the monastery of the Syrians in Rome from 1707, and he is known for translating works of Aquinas and writing other theological works.

باسيليوس إسحاق جبير = Bāsīliyūs Isḥāq Jubayr; Syriac = ܒܣܠܝܘܣ ܐܝܣܚܩ ܓܘܒܝܪ; Iraqi patriarch, born 1643 in Mosul, died May 18, 1721 in Rome; إسحاق بن عبد الحي بن جبرائيل = Isḥāq ibn ʻAbd al-Ḥayy ibn Jibrāʼīl; writer, translator, diplomat, and priest; knew Syriac, Arabic, Latin, Aramaic, and Italian; born as إسحاق عبد الحي جبرائيل عبد الله آل قاشا=Isḥāq ʻAbd al-Ḥayy Jibrāʼīl ʻAbd Allāh Āl Qāshā; traveled to Aleppo in 1674, and in 1682 he was made Metropolitan with the name تيموثاوس اسحق=Tīmūthāwus Isḥaq; studied with the Capuchin fathers then in the Urbanian school of Rome; lived in the monastery of the Syrians in Rome from 1707
