Valerius, Cornelius, 1512-1578
Valerius attended the Hieronymusschule, the Latin school in Utrecht, under the rector Georgius Macropedius. After attending university in Louvain, Valerius returned to the the school as a professor of Latin and rhetoric. He then taught Latin in Louvain at the Collegium Trilingue, where he was a Roman Catholic priest. He was particularly interested in a more elegant presentation of logic in the spirit of humanism and wrote schoolbooks on rhetoric, physics, ethics, astronomy, and the natural sciences. He was an excellent lecturer and popular teacher. Not to be confused with the Dutch humanist Cornelius Wouters (approximately 1500–1577).
