- Buṭrus (Petrus) al-Bustānī; from a Maronite family in the village ad-Dibbīya near al-Harrūb (Lebanon); born in 1819, attended religious school in ʻAin Warqa; converted to Protestantism at age 20 and worked as a language teacher for the American mission, then as translator at the American consulate; worked to translate the Bible with Eli Smith and Cornelius Van Dyck; he died on May 1, 1883
