Dressler, Gallus, 1533-
German composer and theorist, educated at Jena. He became Kantor at the grammar school at Magdeburg (1558), where he wrote most of his extant works. He earned a master's degree at Wittenberg (1570) and later became deacon at Zerbst (1575). He mostly wrote polyphonic settings of Latin sacred texts in a Netherlandish style, but he is remembered for his German-language motets.
